Ram 1500 First Truck to Win Back to Back Truck of the Year Honors

The 2014 Ram 1500 wins Motor Trend magazine Truck of the Year award for the second year in a row.  The magazine says it offers all the things truck buyers want: choice, value, great design, and more than enough power and torque.

This was the first time any truck has won the award two years in a row.  The 2013 Ram 1500 won the title last year.  Motor Trend’s Editor-In-Chief Ed Loh said, “Not only did the Ram 1500 withstand our rigorous testing, it thoroughly impressed our judges with its vast array of standard and optional equipment, and, most notable, its fuel efficient, segment exclusive EcoDiesel V6.  With 420 pound feet of torque and up to 28 ‘Real MPG’ highway, the EcoDiesel is a true game-changer.”

USA Today said The Ram stood apart because of “its new diesel engine and eight-speed transmission, which easily topped the other models in fuel economy.”

When put through the tests, Ram won due to its ample torque and excellent fuel economy.   The judges were also impressed with the air suspension and its sense of style and luxury.

This years’ competition featured a total of nine different trucks.  The winner was determined by a panel of judges after running the vehicles through a grueling series of tests at the 5,000 acre Continental Tire Automotive Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas.

2014 Dodge Durango is Set Apart

CNET.com says “In styling and connected tech, the 2014 Dodge Durango shows what the future holds for SUVs.  That is impressive.  It is one thing to keep up with the technology of your peers but when you have experts and critics raving about what you have done and saying that your technology is the future for your market segment, you have done something special.  With its improved fuel efficiency and economy, the Durango is singlehandedly saving the SUV car segment by showing that all SUV’s are not gas guzzling vehicles but can evolve into a modern connected vehicle.

The latest installment of the popular SUV continues to impress as a stylishly designed, modern vehicle.  The Exterior is sleek with an interior that is refined class with a nice balance of maximum functionality without feeling crowded or busy.  It has the versatility and functionality of a crossover yet the power and performance of an SUV.

The editors of Auto Week magazine says, “The Durango R/T represents an excellent compromise between the practical needs of a family of four (or six or seven) and the irrational needs of a performance enthusiast.  The lower, darker and meaner appearance of the Durango definitely shows an upgrade in character.

The Tampa Bay Times say that the Durango is a stylish and comfortable large SUV.  “Whether you need to haul the family or your recreational toys, it’s up to the task, and to offers enough trim levels to satisfy most tastes and budgets.”

Ron Burgundy and Dodge Durango

Most people know Ron Burgundy as the news anchor on Anchorman. However, with Dodge’s new ad campaign, Ron Burgundy may consider a career as a Dodge salesman. In the first month of the campaign, which began in early October, Dodge Durango sales increased by 59%. YouTube videos of Ron Burgundy and the Dodge Durango have received well over seven million views, urging people to check out the new SUV, and they like what they see.

To go along with the new funny ad campaign, the Durango has also received a new look and content for the 2014 model. The height of the grille has been shaved down, the headlights are now sleeker and LED running lamps have been added.

Chrysler’s V-8 is back with the 360-hp, 5.7 liter Hemi. To keep up with the fuel regulations, the 5.7 V-8 keeps its fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation system that idles four cylinders when cruising under a light load. It is estimated that the new changes will improve the estimated EPA highway from 20 to 22-23 mpg depending on the driveline.

All new with the 2014 engine is the Eco mode that gives it an EPA-estimated 25 mpg on the highway. With the Durango’s 24.6 gallon fuel tank, you could go 600 miles between fill-ups.

The Durango remains a stylish yet powerful truck with available V-8 power, plenty of towing ability and new fuel-economy technology. Whether or not Ron Burgundy or the new features have increased the sales, the results are the same: the 2014 Dodge Durango cannot be ignored.

2014 Ram 1500 Wins Motor Trend Truck of the Year

Impressive, stunning, a leap forward, the best truck in history, are all ways you could describe the 2014 Ram 1500.  Or you could simply sum it up the way the experts at Motor Trend did; the 2014 Ram 1500 is the 2014 Truck of the Year.

The announcement was made at the Chrysler Group LLC Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, the birthplace of Ram Trucks.  The Ram went in head to head with eight other Truck of the Year contenders.  All of the trucks were put through an extensive battery of testing designed to evaluate virtually every aspect of each vehicle.

Other contenders included the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra and the GMC Sierra, all of whom came up embarrassingly short of the game-changing Ram.  Testing was held at the Continental Tire Automotive Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas where judges tested each truck’s performance in speed, handling, towing and payload capacity, and road looping.

The votes cast were overwhelmingly supportive of the Ram, crowning the 2014 Ram 1500 as the Motor Trend Truck of the Year, making Ram the first truck to ever win the coveted award in consecutive back-to-back years.

The 2014 Truck of the Year was chosen by how the Ram 1500 held up to the following criteria: Design Advancement, Engineering Excellence, Efficiency, Safety, Value, and Performance of Intended Function.  The judges were impressed with the performance of the Ram 1500’s all-new EcoDiesel V-6 engine and its eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission, a combination that boasts a towing capacity of up to 9,200 pounds.  Furthermore, Motor Trend’s Real MPG testing supported what the team learned in Uvalde: None of the gas-powered half-ton trucks in this year’s competition – be they V-6 or V-8, 4x2 or 4x4 – could match the EcoDiesel’s mileage.

"For 2014 we had a large and highly competitive field of contenders for Motor Trend's Truck of the Year," said Edward Loh, Editor-in-Chief of Motor Trend. "At the end of the day, though, the Ram 1500 quickly rose to the top. Not only did it withstand our rigorous testing, it thoroughly impressed our judges with its vast array of standard and optional equipment, and, most notable, its fuel-efficient, segment-exclusive EcoDiesel V-6. With 420 lb-ft of torque and up to 28 'Real MPG' highway, the EcoDiesel is a true game-changer. In fact it helped make Ram 1500 the Motor Trend 2014 Truck of the Year – and the only consecutive winner in the history of the award."

Ram Trucks continue to rack up award after award and are truly a sight to behold.  Come experience the 2014 Truck of the Year today at Monroeville Dodge.  Visit our showroom at 3633 William Penn Highway in Monroeville, Pennsylvania or give us a call at 412-856-1700 today!
